Messaria is a small village in the Southeast and four klm away from Fira. It is known for the Cycladic architecture, the impressive mansion type houses, and a number of churches like Agia Irini and Metamorfosis of Sotiros, which date from the 17th and 18th century. People make a living from the production of wine. There is a number of accommodation, shops, and taverns. One drawback of Messaria is that it is built on the island's main road used for moving around the island.
