FIRA : Fira has been the capital of Santorini since the 19th century. The town underwent a great shock when the 1956 earthquake destroyed part of it. Fira lies on a cliff 260m high and overlooks the sunk volcano.The typical architectural style is white painted houses with spacious, full of sun verandas and blue domed churches. Fira's main square is the Theotocopoulou plateia, a place where all people meet.The bus and the taxi station as well as a number of travel agencies can be found in 25th March street which intersects with the main square.    
 The town's alleys are full of shops like jewellery stores, cafes, restaurants, bars, and clubs, the right place for those who want to see crowds or entertain themselves.
