The sea-side village of Vatera is situated on the south coast of Lesvos, 50km. from the town of Mytilini. More precisely, Vtera is st between the Gulf of Gera and the Gulf of Kaloni. During the winter months, the inhabitants of Vatera are no more than 150, while in the summer, those visiting the area are many more. The tourists can find here all kind of services, such as hotels, shops, tavernas and bars. In the spring and autumn, Vatera is ideal for those interested in migrating birds.
Vatera beach, the longest on the island, (7km. long), is ideal for swimming, water-sports, fishing and sailing. It has been awarded the EEC blue ribbon for its clean, crystal blue waters.
On the western side of Vatera beach lies the cape of Agios Fokas with two natural mineral springs enclosed in thermal baths. At the base of the cape, the visitor can see the small ancient harbor paved with stones.
