The historical village of Thermopiles, (meaning «Hot Gates» in Greek), is situated 18km. away from Lamia. Nowdays, the village counts a population of no more than 400 inhabitants, while the pass is divided into two parts by the main highway. A modern-day monument of Leonidas stands on one side. The famous, since antiquity, sulphurous thermal springs have made an important resort out of the village.
At a short distance, (3km. away), the visitor may also find the historic bridge of Alamana.
