Thassos Town (Limenas) is both the ancient and modern capital town of the island, having a population of approximately 2,000 inhabitants. The surrounding hills are covered in pine trees, while its two harbors dominate the waterfront. The town, built between the capes of Evreokastro, (to the east) and Pachi, (to the west), is the shopping center of the north side of Thassos.
The beautiful beach of Limenas is situated next to a forest covered in pine trees. The beach is narrow but the sea is clean with shallow waters. It has been awarded the Blue Flag. In Limenas, the visitor can find a great variety of hotels, apartments, cafeterias, tavernas and nightclubs.
