Symi Town: The island’s style is obvious as you walk around the capital. Two settlements form the town and capital of Symi: Chorio, («Village»), and Gialos, («Harbor»). Both, have been characterized as preservable, especially Gialos since the early 1970s.
Connecting Gialos and the upper old town of Chorio are the 375 steps of the famous Kali Strata, («Good Path»), a path lined with neoclassical mansions of the 19th century, painted in warm colours. Kali Strata used to be the island’s old commercial road where the captains and merchants had their houses.
The highest point of Chorio is capped by the castle of the knights of Saint John. In Gialos’ square, one can see the old « tarsanades» where the ships were made.
In the town of Symi the visitor can find hotels and rooms to let of all categories and choose from the many bars, restaurants and cafeterias. Finally, in the central road, the visitor can admire the famous Municipal clock, built in the year of 1890.
