Steni is situated in the north part of the island, 24km. away from Chalkida. It is one of the most popular resorts in Evia, built on the foot of mountain Dirfis. Steni has a population of no more than 1,300 inhabitants consisting of three areas, namely Kato Steni, (Lower), Ano Steni, (Upper), and the almost deserted settlement of Pyrgos-Skounteri. All houses follow the traditional architectural style being interrupted by narrow, paved streets. Steni is the ideal place for those wishing to relax away from the crowds. In the village, the visitor can drink fresh water from one of the 43 stone fountains, surrounded by the huge plane tree.
Steni offers various traditional tavernas, grill-houses and small cafeterias, while there are, also, a few hotels and rooms to let. The hotels are situated in the eft side of the village, among a pine forest. The view from that point is breath taking.
If you visit Steni, do not forget to buy some of the local traditional products, such as tea, honey, cheese and aromatic plants.
