Sigri

Sigri is a small fishing village located on the southwestern tip of the island. More precisely, it is distanced 26km. from Skala Erresou and 93km. from the town of  Mytilini.
The name Sigri comes from the Latin word «securo», meaning «safe harbor». The village has a large commercial dock and a beach situated in a semi sheltered cove with traditional tavernas.
Sigri consists of small and romantic cobbled-paved streets, surrounded by hotels and tourist shops. In the main square the visitor may find several fine restaurants and bars.
On the way to Sigri, the visitor comes across the
Protected Natural Monument of the Petrified Forest, the only one in all of Europe. It is estimated of being 20,000,000 years old and is even bigger than the one in Arizona. The site is almost 3km long and is something everybody should see.
