The prefecture of Pieria is situated in the southern part of Macedonia, its capital town being that of Katerini. The Pierian mountains lie to the west, while to the east lies the Thermian Gulf. The coast of Pieria is of unique beauty with several sandy beaches of crystal clear waters.
Pieria has a total area of 1,548 sq. km and a population of approximately 129,000 inhabitants. Every year several cultural and musical events take place throughout the prefecture, with the Olympus Festival being the most popular of all.
