Patitiri is the capital and the main harbour of the island. Its settlement is built in the sides of mountain and it shapes a wall round of Alonnisos or Country, the old capital, which suffered serious destructions from the earthquake 1965 and that is the reason why the residents were forced to abandon it. Thus, from 1978 the capital was transported in Patitiri. It is “drowned” in the green, while it is surrounded by verdant extents. The houses are white and with roof of tiles that creates fairy pictures.
It owns its name to the press of the grapes that existed older in the region and was the main employment of the residents.
During your tour in Patitiri, walking into the graphic back streets of the city you will meet also the Private Folklore Museum of Kostas and Aggela Mavriki. There you will have the occasion to see important samples of the popular heritage of island.
