The mountain of Parnitha is situated on the north of Athens, only 30km away. Being the highest on the peninsula of Attica, it is designed as a national park protected by the state. The mountain offers a panoramic view and during clear days the visitor can even see the northern Viotia and the Peloponnese. About 1,000 species of plants can be found on Parnitha. Additionally, the forest is the natural habitat for the red deer. A casino, the «Mount Parnes Casino», is situated near the top of Parnitha, while there are, also, two shelters, namely Mpafi and Flabouri.
