On the slopes of mountain Hortiatis, at an altitude of 250m over the Thermaikos Gulf stands the municipality of Panorama which is one of the most favorable by nature and humans municipalities in Thessaloniki. The first inhabitants in Panorama were immigrants from Asia Minor who settled here in 1914. Cultivators and farmers, they came here to cultivate the infertile earth which at those times was just rocks. Few in number and without means to cultivate the rocky grounds they placed themselves to the community of Kabutzides (Pylea). In 1922, with the arrival of the second part of the immigrants, the community of Panorama grew larger and began developing. Panorama spreads literally in the forest. The vegetation is rich, the view is immaculate, the climate is unique and the human intervention has been very cautious towards the natural environment. The municipality is preferred for permanent residency as well as for day excursions in the forests around. In the location Platanakia the traveler has the chance to explore a highly important aquatic biotope. In winter time the landscape is dressed in white and during summertime the waterfall is cooling to the passengers. Don’t miss to visit the eight watermills, dated from the Byzantine ages. The facilities the municipalities have created fully serve the visitor’s needs and accommodation.
