The mountainous village of Panagia, (meaning «Virgin Mary» in Greek), was known as Anastasion during the Byzantine period. Surrounded by plenty of running water and plane trees, it is the ideal destination for those wishing to relax away from the crowds. Situated only 10km. away from the capital town, Panagia retains its traditional colors and customs. The architectural style of the houses, (with roofs made of slate), differs from that found in the rest of the settlements.
Panagia, with a population of approximately 900 inhabitants, offers to the visitor several hotels, apartments, cafeterias and tavernas.
