Oxilithos is situated on the north part of the island, with a population of approximately 1,600 inhabitants. Most of the houses follow the traditional architecture, built with the characteristic red stone found in the area. Also, there are several Byzantine churches for the visitor to see. The village is picturesque, combining both the wild beauty of the mountain and that of the sea. It has a long, sandy beach of crystal clear waters, called Stomio.
