Marathokambos, (meaning plain of fennels), faces to the south towards the homonymous bay. Initially, it was built ay a lower location and later moved up to the mountains, possibly for safety reasons.
Marathokambos has a population of approximately 3,600 inhabitants and is situated on the slopes of mountain Kerkos. In general, it is a rocky and mountainous village, one of the largest on Samos.
The port is called Ornos and a short distance from there is the Votsalakia beach. Another beautiful beach is that of Psili Ammos.
On the west side of Marathokambos, the visitor can find several small, sandy coves.
