Mandraki: Mandraki is the capital of Nissiros., built at the foot of a steep hill.It is the main town and port, situated on the northwest side of the island. Mandraki has whitewashed houses, together with a few traditional stone ones and it is where the majority of the population lives.
Approximately 800m. southwest from Mandraki the visitor can meet the ancient acropolis of the town.
The capital’s beach lies behind Spiliani Fortress, (10 minutes on foot), with black pebbles formed from volcanic lava.
To the northeast of Mandraki lies Pali, a fishing village with an excellent beach for swimming.
