History of Airport Sitia Lassithi Crete ,and general informations of Airport Sitia (Airport code JSH)
History of Airport :sitia Airport ,The Sitia Public Airport , is found in the region Mponta of Sitia Municipality , and is far 1 Km. from the centre of city.
On June 7, 1984 is landed in Sitia airport, the first plane of Olympic Airways, DORNIER 228 type. Tis is the SXBHF, that executed the first test flight, and gets staff of Olympic Aviation.
On June 9, 1984 became the openings of Sitia Public Airport. In the 10:30 of the same day, was landed the aircraft SXBHC, that executed the first official flight, OAL 7001. Get Governor YPA, Mr Tzouvalis, the Athens International Airport Manager Mr Papadimitropoulos and superior employees of HCAA and Olympic Airways.
On June 13, 1984 are landed first flight OAL by Rhodes with aircraft type SKYVAN.
On June 14, 1984 are landed first flight OAL by Karpathos.
On September 6, 1986 was completed the works of RWY 17/23, TWY and APRON blacktop.
On May 20, 1993 became the rehousing of Sitia Airport Services , from the old Terminal building in the new including Tower Control building. The new building installations cover an area of 550 m2.
From May 1, 2003 a new Runway 05/23, with length 2100 m, width 60 m and security zones +/- 75 m has been operated. Also there are 3 new Taxiways and 2 new aircraft stands for big and small aircrafts.
Also, from May 1, 2003 the old Terminal building replaced with temporary Terminal buildings which cover an area of 1000 m2.
