Kordelio was founded in 1924 by immigrants from Asia Minor and more specifically from the location Kordelio which was a much known suburb 13Klm away from Smyrni. In 1927 more immigrants arrive (be-cause of the exchange of populations) from Eastern Thrace. From there and on Kordelio has been a location that accepts immigrants from abroad, as well as internal immigrants. The municipality has been constantly developing ever since. The inhabitants have created a railway museum which is a real gem among the museums of modern art. The museum keeps objects from 1896 such as maps, uniforms, communication mechanisms, bells, magnetic telephones as well as wagons from the passed century. One of the most valuable exhibits of the museum is the dinning wagon of the legendary “Orient Express” which was constructed in 1883 and up to the first decades of the 20th century was travelling from Paris to Konstantinople through Thessaloniki. The building that the exhibits are hosted was built during the 19th century and used to be a military station.
