The coastal village of Kokkari is situated 10km. northwest from the town of Samos. It is the third largest resort on the island with a population of approximately 1,500 inhabitants.
Kokkari is the most picturesque fishing harbor of Samos, where two small capes form a tiny bay.
It is believed that the name of the village derives from the many onions produced here, («kokkari» in Greek means small onion). Another opinion is that it derives from the name of its first settler.
Today, Kokkari retains its traditional nature, having some of the most beautiful beaches. A short distance to the west are the beaches of Tsamandou and Lemonakia with crystal clear waters. Exposed and windy, there are a favorite location for all windsurfers.
The waterfront is lined with tavernas and bars. There are also several small hotels scattered around the village.
