Kimolos (Introduction): Kimolos is a small and unspoiled island on the southwestern tip of the Cyclades group. Being situated very close to Milos, it has a total area of 39 square kilometers and a population of approximately 1100 residents. Today, most of the people live in the capital of the island, known as Chora.
Kimolos is a volcanic and mountainous island with its highest peak being that of Paleokastro, (364m.).
If you wish having a peaceful vacation that is the ideal place to be. There are some beautiful beaches, such as Aliki, (white sanded), Ellinika, Klima and Prassa with several secluded coves nearby.
The capital town is a traditional one with small houses built around the center of the castle. Because of the many pirate attacks, the whole settlement is like a true labyrinth.
Ii is believed that Kimolos took its name after chalk, (chalk=kimolia in Grrek), which it onced produced. On the other hand, according to a legend, the name was given after the island’s first inhabitant, Kimolos.
If you come, do not miss trying some of the local food and drink, such as «kolokythenia», (pumpkin pie), «ladenia», (oil pie), the dry wine and honey.
There are several ferries from Piraeus, Kythnos, Sifnos and other islands.
