The beautiful island of Kefalonia is the biggest one of the Ionian group. It has a total area of 800sq.km. and a population of approximately 45,000 inhabitants. Kefalonia is named after the mythological figure of Cephalus, while many are those believing that it means «island with a head»-referring to its shape. («kefali» means «head» in Greek). Argostoli is the capital town of the island where you can find an indeed fully organized camping site.
Scattered traditional villages and long sandy beaches with crystal clear waters are some of the attractions worth seeing. Mountain Ainos is of unique beauty where a rare species of fir forest is growing.
If you come to Kefalonia do not forget to visit the cave of Drogarati, a large stalagmitic cavern of exceptional beauty.
