The capital town of Kavala is the second largest in northern Greece, having the principal seaport in eastern Macedonia. The modern town occupies the site of ancient Neapolis, being built amphitheatrically on the slopes of mountain Simvolo, (meaning «Symbol» in Greek), overlooking the picturesque harbor. More precisely, it is situated 165km. away from Thessaloniki.
Kavala offers a great combination of modern buildings, spacious squares and shopping centers together with traditional old houses and narrow stone-paved streets.
The town is linked by air with Athens and charters from various European cities. By sea, the ferry connects Kavala with Piraeus, Rafina and many islands, (such as Thassos, Lesvos, Chios etc.).
Every year, the popular ethnic festival, known as the «the Cosmopolis International Festival», takes place here.
Kavala, is the capital of the tobacco industry in the whole of Greece. If you come to the town, do not forget to visit the imposing medieval castle, situated on the top of a hill. The visitor may find here a great variety of hotels, apartments, tavernas, cafeterias, nightclubs and commercial shops.
