The capital town of Katerini lies on the Pierian plane, between the mountains of Pierus and the Thermaikos Gulf. It has a population of approximately 56,000 inhabitants. The town owes its name to the Greek Orthodox Martyr Cathrine of Alexandria, otherwise known as Agia Aikaterini.
The sea is only 6km away from the center of the town, attracting every year a great number of visitors. Especially, the beaches of Korinos and Olympiaki Akti are the most popular of all.
Katerini offers all kinds of facilities, including hotels, cafeterias, restaurants, nightclubs and commercial shops.
