LAKE SETTLEMENT OF DISPILIO
Dispilio is a small village at the southern shore of the lake. It is located between Kastoria (7km away) and Argos Orestiko (4km away).
All started in 1932, a year of drought in Kastoria. The water level of the lake came down and exposed wooden pillars of a prehistoric establishment, hidden for thousands of years under the water of the lake. It was also found a great number of stakes on the bottom, remains of the Prehistoric Greece and a variety of statuettes of men and women, a wooden sign dated back to 5260 B.C. etc.
 
FOSSILIZED FOREST OF NOSTIMO
The fossilized forest is at least 20 million years old and it is located at the outskirts of Nostimo village. Nostimo is a mountainous village of Orestidos Municipality which is situated at the southwestern part of the prefecture, 15km from Argos Orestiko and 25km from Kastoria. Even though, it is built 900m. above the sea level, the findings of the area will surprise the visitor.
There are starfish, sea shells, sea-urchins, snails, mussels and oysters, the tooth of a huge shark and other sea fossils in excellent condition. In addition, there are tropical and subtropical species of vegetation, trunks of 15m. length and 2 m. diameter, palm trees and animal fossils such as mastodon of 3,5 million years old. In addition, there are 2 agricultural tools of Neolithic Period (4 th millennium B.C.).
Perhaps, at the same area there was a prehistoric settlement and it is sure that there will be found more important findings if the excavation proceed.
The findings are temporarily at the school of the village which services as an exposition space until the Museum completion.
  
PRESPES
Prespes area is located at the northwestern part of Greece at an altitude of 853m. It is one more natural boundary of our country since it joins Greece, Albania and Fyrom.
This huge water land consists of Mikri (small) Prespa and Megali (big) Prespa, which are separated by a land lane of 5km length and 8 to 1000m width. Megali Prespa is the biggest lake of the Balkans. It is 288km2 and just 37 of them belong to Greece. Mikri Prespa is 44km2 and its biggest part belongs to Greece, except for a small part which belongs to Albania.
Prespes offer beauty and peace to the visitor but also offer a shelter to 15 species of fish, 11 species of amphibious, 40 species of mammals and 260 species of birds some of which are infrequent and some are in danger of vanishing.
The area can be visited all year round, since every season offers its own beauty and it is advisable for different activities. Walking through the paths of the around mountains, driving a car or riding a motor bike the visitor can explore and enjoy the natural landscape and the lake, have lunch to the small taverns and stay to a hostel.

GRAMMOS
Grammos belongs to the mountain chain of Pindos, with 250km length and 70km width. It is one of the main and highest mountains of Pindos, the fourth one in height (2.520m). At the area there are rocky slopes, impressive mountain tops, endless forests, dashing torrents and many sources with cool, drinkable water.

At Grammos there is a rich and variform flora. There are 3000 species of mushrooms, various herbs, the mountain, odoriferous origan, the small, sweet wild strawberries and the blackberries.

This wild Alpine giant is not as unapproachable as it seems like. Apart from the local shepherds, many friends of mountain visit it. The area is suitable for many activities such as trekking, on E6 or conventional paths, climbing, rafting, hunting, 4x4 or enduro motorcycles, camping or just sightseeing.
