Kastelrizo (Introduction): Kastelorizo or Megisti, (as it is known from ancient times), is situated at the south easternmost edge of Greek dominion. The island is located 72 miles east of Rhodes and only 2km. from the Turkish coast. It is a mountainous and rocky island which combines natural scenery, ancient monuments and moments of absolute relaxation.
On Kastelorizo there are no buses, just one taxi. Car and motorcycle circulation is prohibited. The well-preserved foot paths are ideal for romantic walks.
In the southeast side of the island one can visit, by boat, the «Fokiali blue cave», one of Europe’s most famous grottoes.
The visitor can swim on Faros, Plakes, Mandraki and at the beaches of the islets of Ro, Agios Georgios and Strogilli. Ro became famous when its sole inhabitant, the lady of Ro, used to raise the Greek flag every morning.
