Kastania: Northwest of Korinthos at the foothills of mountain Kyllini at an altitude of 1100m and amphitheatrica-lly built lies Kastania. The name means chestnut tree and was named like that because of the huge chestnut tree forest that existed at the location until 1825 or 1826 when it was burned to some by Ibrahim (Ottoman ruler of the territory) and according to others during the confliction of the Notareon family (something like a vendetta). The forest casted the territory very affluent and provided the Greeks with goods during the Ottomanic domination and later during the revolution. Nowadays the place is a quiet village with few inhabitants.
