Karterados: The village of Karterados is situated only a few kilometers away from Fira. Its name means «the watching-hiding post» and it is characterized by its traditional architecture. On the main street, the vistiror can find a great number of hotels, commercial shops, tavernas and cafeterias. Around the village there are many vineyards, while at a short distance the rocky beach of Exo Gialos can be found. Karterados is renowned for its elegant churches of beautiful architecture. Also, during the 19th century, it evolved into a very prosperous village with many rich ship-owners having their rocky mansions being built there.
