Karditsa is the capital town of the homonym prefecture, with a population of approximately 35,000 inhabitants. It is situated 300km. away from Athens and can be reached by either bus or train from Athens and Thessaloniki. More precisely, it is built next to a tributary of Pinios river.
The town of Karditsa is the center of all financial and cultural activities of the province, counting several squares and buildings, (both of modern and traditional architectural style).
The area is dominated by the water bulk of the artificial lake of Nikolaos Plastiras. Although it is not natural, over the years it has been turned into a rare aqueous ecosystem. The surrounding forests are ideal for those wishing to relax close to nature. Pafsilipos Park is a true ornament of the town, covered in trees, flowers and cobblestone paths. Karditsa offers to the visitor all sorts of facilities, including hotels, commercial shops, restaurants, cafeterias and nightclubs.
