Karditsa is one of the prefectures of Greece within the Thessaly periphery, with a population of approximately 124,000 inhabitants. The prefecture is known for its beautiful countryside and the western half is dominated by the mountains of Pindos. The two main rivers are Megdova and Pineios. The capital town is that of Karditsa with a population of approximately 35,000 inhabitants. There are various traditional villages worth of visiting, built on all-green mountain slopes.
The Plastiras dam and the synonymous lake, situated to the south, supply water to the plains.
