Kardamila is located at a distance of 28km. from the town of Chios, towards the north, with a population of around 2,000 residants. The area is divided into two sections. The upper section is the older village, spreading at the feet of a hill called Mount Grias. The village is of traditional architecture with narrow streets and houses made of stone. The lower village, called Marmaro, («marble»), 2km.from the upper village, is built in the inner part of the bay. Marmaro is protected by the small island of Nisi. A distinguishing mark of Marmaro is the statue of the Silor, created by sculptor Apartis, set in the harbor’s square.
