49 km away from Patra this Achain village is the home town of Georgios Papandreou who used to be the prime minister of Greece. It’s situated at the interrior of the Achain land and is parted by the smaller communities Diaselo and Vassilikos. There are other nine villages in Greece with the same name. The inhabitants at the Achaian Kalenzi came from Ioannina when they were hunted down by the Ottomans. In the verdulous forest of pine trees and at an altitude of 1300m the inhabitants found protection in these grounds and when the winters became unbearably cold they moved lower, at 905m. The old village is still standing empty of people. In 1669 Kalenzi is referred in a Venetian catalogue of the villages in Achaia. The climate is very healthy and a living proof of that is the long years that the inhabitants live. The modern village is standing on the location od the ancient city Tritea, which belonged to the Achaian Fellow cities and acmed during the 3rd century BC. We have very few findings of that era. In Vassilikos there are remainings of an ancient building that is called Palioklissi. On the hill named Palataki there was found an underground old building. Tradition says that at that point a young queen was drawn and the king and her husband ordered to built the spring which found its way at the location of Hatzouri. Visit the small gorge Poros. Trees, flowers, guest houses and magical atmospere awaits you in this village.
