Poseidon Sanctuary & Ancient Mende
Mende was founded in the 8 th century BC from settlers of Eretria on the island of Euba. The city got famous by exporting local wine. The leftovers of the city of Mende today are found on the plateau and slopes of a hill south of Kalandra near the Hotel Mendi. The sanctuary of Mende was dedicated to Poseidon. It is one of the oldest in Greece and was in use from the 12th to the 2nd century BC .
