Kalampaki is a small town just 13 km south of the prefecture's capital Drama Town. It has about 3.500 inhabitants, most of them descending from refugees from Pontos, east Thrace and Asia Minor. The inhabitants main occupation is agriculture.
If you choose to visit Kalampaki in January, don't neglect to enjoy the traditional celebration of 'Kourbani', that was brought by the refugees from Kryonero in eastern Thrace. It is honoured on the 18th, the nominal feast of Agios Athanassios, when all the locals eat together cooked cow or bull with groat.
