Itea is situated in the southeastern part of Fokida, 20km. away from Amfissa. The town was founded in the year of 1830 and today is an important commercial and transit center with a population of approximately 9,000 inhabitants. Itea owes its name to the numerous willow trees, («ities» in Greek), that used to reach as far as the shore. The area is situated in a plain filled with farms and groves, while on a clear day the Peloponnese can been seen. Squares and alleys full in trees, give to the visitor the opportunity for an enjoyable walk through the town.
Itea, is the port of both Amfissa and Delfi, while its marine has a capacity of 250 vessels. The organized beaches of «Trokantero» and «Maiami» are ideal for swimming, both being honoured with the Blue Flag. Every year, several sport and cultural events take place here. If you visit Itea you shall find several hotels, restaurants, tavernas and bars.
