Hotels in Halkidona
Home page - Macedonia - Thessaloniki

Built at the northwest section of the city, about 40Klm away from Thessaloniki and very close to the municipality Koufalia, stands the municipality Halkidona, which in passed years was the village Yalejick. Yalejick must have been a very small community of 200 people during the Byzantine era. For several years it was under the commandment of the municipality Koufalia and texts of 1914 characterize it as a farm that belonged to Gazi Evren Bey. Up to 1926 the grounds were called Yalejick. When the immigrants from Asia Minor arrived and settled here, the government decided to rename the grounds tto New Halkidona, in memory of the homeland the refugees had left behind. Worth to be seen is the Christian Temple of Apostolos Petros and Pavlos, which is a post- Byzantine monument on the location that Yalejick was first standing.
