Galaxidi is situated at the west part of Crisaean gulf, 10km. south of Itea. It has a population of approximately 1,400 inhabitants and the town is, actually, built on the site of ancient Oianthi. Much of the land is bushy and rocky, covered in mountains. The small, picturesque harbor is used by fishing boats and yachts. Galaxidi has two natural harbors, namely Agora and Chirolaka, separated by Kavos. In Kavos the visitor can admire the beautiful lighthouse built in the year of 1909.
Galaxidi used to have a number of windmills, while today there are only three left, two of which retaining, still, their good condition. The town has been characterized as a traditional settlement consisting of several old mansions of excellent architecture. The visitor may find here various hotels, cafeterias and tavernas of great local cuisine, especially the fresh sea food.
