Gaios is the capital and the harbour of Paxi. According to the tradition it took his name from the student of Apostle Pavlos that taught the Christianity in the Paxos people. The graphic settlement is built in the myho a closed and secure gulf. In the islet of Virgin Mary dominates the monastery that is dedicated in her charm, while in the island of Saint Nikolaos is found the Venetian castle of Saint Nikolas that is dated from 1423 and is one of the most famous sightseeings of the island. If you take a walk in the narrow streets of the Gaios you will know the graphic neighbourhoods of the capital of Paxi. The houses maintain the traditional eptanisian architecture. While at length of the coastal you see also the mansions of a new classical rhythm that give in the region a royal aspect. Dyed in the colour of ochre or in the pink and the light blue tones, remind you seasons of romantic people and dreamers. Near in the harbour you will meet the historical file of the island and the church of Saint Apostles. At your eve in the Gaios you visit also the museum of Paxi that through his exhibits is presented all the history of the island. For the lovers of the swimming and marine sports the island of Paxi is an ideal place. The beaches of the island constitute the incarnation of dreams of each bather and visitor. From the Gaios you can easily approach the beaches: Gianna, Soylanena, Klwni Goyli, Kamini and Bad Lagkada. Also, with little boats (caiques) you will visit the islet Virgin Mary and Saint Nikolaos and you will swim in their splendid beaches. At the night you will have lunch in the coastal restaurants. Drink your coffee in the cafeterias that are found near in the harbour, enjoying the view. And later in the bars of the region you will entertain Greek and foreigner music.
