The prefecture of Fthiotida counts several beautiful mountains and majestic, clean beaches. In addition, there are, also, various thermal springs equipped with modern tourist facilities, such as Ipati, Kamena Vourla and Platistomo. Fthiotida is well know for its summer resorts and mountain villages covered in oak trees. The prefecture owes its name to the mythical hero Fthios. The capital town is that of Lamia, situated on the southwestern side of mountain Othris. The visitor may choose from a great variety of hotels, tavernas, cafeterias and nightclubs.
