Folegandros (Introduction): Folegandros is situated in the southern of the Cyclades, between the islands of Sikinos and Milos. It has a total area of 32 square kilometers and its population is no more than 650 inhabitants.
By many, Folegandros is called the «island of peace». It is a small, beautiful island with traditional streets and alleys paved with cobblestone. The white houses on the blue sea background, compose a magical and romantic landscape.
Folegandros has three main villages, namely Karavostassi, Chora and Ano Meria. The picturesque village of Chora has three squares in a row, covered in big trees. Here, the visitor can also see the impressive Venetian fortress.
The island, with a coastline of 40km., offers a variety of beautiful beaches, such as Angali, Ampeli, Livadaki, Agios Georgios and Agios Nikolaos. Also, there are two caves on the island, Faragi and Chryssospilia, (meaning Golden Cave). According to the locals, both are interconnected.
Accomodation is limited but there are various traditional tavernas and cafeterias to choose from. Paradoxically, there is quite some nightlife on the island.
Folegandros can be reached by ferry boat departing from Piraeus.
