In the northeastern shores of Greece lies the prefecture of Evros, the northernmost one in Greece. It has a total area of 4,242 sq. km and its capital town is Alexandroupoli.
The population reaches the number of approximately149,000 inhabitants. Evros has taken its name from the homonymous river dividing Greece and Turkey. At the delta of the river the visitor can find one of the most significant water lands in Europe. The caves Bouva, Kagiali and Makri attract hundreds of people each year due to their unique speleological and archaeological value.
