Domokos is situated on the slopes of mountain Orthrys, 35km. away from Lamia and 25km. away from Farsala. In the earlier years Domokos was known by the name of Thavmakos. Today, is a a charming, amphitheatrically built, town with a population of approximately 2,000 inhabitants. All houses retain their traditional architectural style and the visitor can find here various hotels, tavernas, cafeterias and bars. For many, Domokos is the perfect mid point to Meteora. The medieval castle of the town is built on the foundations of the ancient acropolis, on top of a hill. The castle is known as Strogylokastro, meaning «round castle» in Greek.
