Antiparos (Introduction):The island of Antiparos is situated in the heart of the Cyclades group, at a very close distance from the island of Paros, (only 3km. away). The island has a population of approximately 900 inhabitants and its coastline is 57km. long.
In ancient times, the island was called «Oliavos», meaning forested island. Antiparos is a destination for peaceful vacations, covered in landscapes full of cedar trees and beautiful sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. The most beautiful beach of Antiparos is found in Agios Georgios, 11km. away from the harbor. Antiparos is surrounded by smaller islands, such as Kavouras, Diplo, Rematonisi and Saliagas with a lighthouse on it.
The earth is volcanic in origin and the tallest peak is that of Prophitis Ilias, in the center of the island.
Antiparos has some excellent hotels, tavernas, cafeterias and various shops. To get here you must first reach Paros island by airplane or by boat from Piraeus or Rafina, (Attica).
The cave of Antiparos is the most impressive natural sightseeing, situated on the southeastern side of the island. It is possibly the oldest cave in Greece, 177m. above sea level. The stalactites and stalagmites create a unique and mysterious atmosphere.
If you happen to be on the island between the 15th and 17th of July, do not miss the traditional festivities of Agia Marina.
