Andritsena : Andritsena is a traditional and historical head village of Ilia, constituting substantially a single unit with the corresponding villages of Mountainous Arcadia. The history of Andritsena begins from Fragocracy with prime importance the role in the Ottoman domination. Andritsena is found 240 kilometres by Athens, via Tripoli, Megalopolis, Karitainas. The Pirgos abstains 64 kilometres from Andritsena and from Ancient Olympia 60 kilometres. Near the borders of Ilia with Arcadia, Andritsena is built amphitheatrically in a full of green bank. It is a village with big history that was developed during the Fragocracy (12th - 13th century after Christ.) and is reported in the Chronicle of Morea. The city played a very important role not only in orlofics but also in the Greek revolution. In 1826 the city was destroyed by the troops of Impraimetres
Today, the village impresses with its mansions, paved with slabs back streets but also it’s square with the tall trees and the splendid view. The `Grand Tap' that is found precisely opposite to it, is the most ancient in Peloponnese and it has built in 1724. In Andritsena is also found the eminent library that was founded in 1840 after of a donation from a humanist of Andritsena the Agathofrono Nikolopoulos that lived in Paris. Its collection includes infrequent manuscripts of the 16th and 17th century, infrequent books either in Greek or in other languages, important documents from the period of revolution and rich folklore material. From Andritsena you can visit the temple of Epicurean Apollo that abstains hardly 14 kilometres, the ancient Arcadian city Figaleia that is found near to the current Pavlitsa, as well as the river of Neda.
The municipality of Andritsena is constituted today by the city of Andritsenas, the Municipal Apartments of Theisoa, of Matesis, of Robon, of Fanari, of Sekoula, of Dafnoula, of Koufopoulos, of Dragogios and finally of Linistena and the settlements Karmi, Mili, Sikies, Mpaleika, Helidoni, Kastrougena and Platia and geographically and administratively belongs to the Prefecture of Ilia. The region of municipality of Andritsena is located in the south-eastern department of the prefecture and is delimited between: the municipalities of Alifira and of Figalia on the westwards of the prefecture of Ilia, northwards of the municipalities Iraias and easternly of Gortinos of the prefecture of Arkadia and southernly of the municipality of Eira the prefecture of Messinia. The region of municipality of Andritsena has extent 132.000 acres and population 2.152 residents, is characterized as mountainous, it represents the 5% of surface of prefecture, while demographic it covers hardly the 1,1%.
The residents at their overwhelming majority are farmers - cattle-breeders. Also exists a small number of laboratories and manufactures (for example, olive presses, production of pastas, bakeries, constructions with aluminum, carpenter's workshop etc). In the seat of Municipality are assembled the public services, annexes of banks, organisms, centre of health and drugstore, installations of tourism, personal services as well as trade (for example, industrial species, gas station, butcheries, super market, fruiterer’s shop, narrow goods, stationeries and goods of gifts etc.). Andritsena abstains from the big tourist centers of the prefecture of Pirgos, of Krestena and of Ancient Olympia, 65 kilometres, 45 kilometres and 55 kilometres respectively, while from the other road axis of approach, the national road Tripoli - Temple Epicureum Apollo, abstains from Tripoli 80 kilometres and from Megalopolis 45 kilometres
The city of Andritsena is characterized as a stone state, stands in the mountainous area of Olympia and is built with traditional architecture preservable buildings made by stone, taps and cobble-stone pavements, particular aesthetic and historical value, with intense tourist activity mainly the aestival months.
Andritsena impresses with its building wealth, as there are a lot of mansions, public buildings, cobble-stone pavements, taps that compose a well-preserved built-up total.
