The town of Amfiklia is a commercial center situated 49km. away from Lamia. The settlement, with a population of approximately 3,500 inhabitants, is divided into three areas, namely Panagia, Agios Dimitrios and Agios Vasilios.
Amfiklia is built at the foot of mountain Parnassos and its original name was Ofitia, meaning «the place where the snake lives». On top of a hill, on the west side of Amfiklia, the visitor may admire the castle of Palaiopirgos. It is a squate castle with two floors, 11m. in height. The locals believe that the tower is connected underground with a well.
