Akrotiri: The village of Akrotiri is situated 12km. south from Fira, next to the famous Red Beach. It is the most significant archaeological site of Santorini, originally a Minoan settlement. The visitor can find a great variety of hotels and tavernas, some of which are built in the traditional way, inside an alcove. The remains of a Venetian castle, torn down by the Turks, are still visible. Impressive is, also, the lighthouse (10m. high), manufactured in the year of 1892. The lighthouse is situated in the end of the homonym cape in Santorini.
