Agrinio is situated 35km. north of Messologi, dating back to ancient times. It has a population of approximately 100,000 inhabitants and until the year of 1925 it was known as Vrachori.
Agrinio owns its name to the patron Agrio Apollona, otherwise known as the son of queen Porthoiona, Agrio. The town is built at the foot of mountain Panaitoliko overlooking a fertile plain producing olives, cotton and tobacco. It is an agricultural, commercial and tobacco-producing center. Indeed, its tobacco is considered as being the best throughout the world. Here, the visitor can find all kinds of facilities, including hotels, restaurants, cafeterias and bars.
