Afandou:

The village of Afandou lies around 20 km. south of Rhodes town and 30 km. south of the airport, on the eastern coast of Rhodes. Only 5 km. away from Faliraki, Afandou is one of the largest an oldest villages on the island of Rhodes. It was founded in time where pirates used to overrun the island of the Mediterranean. During that period, people used to leave the shores in order to seek shelter in the inland. The village took its name from the Greek word «afandos» which means «invisible» , since it could not be seen from the sea.

Afandou, with a population of about 7,500 people, is still a peaceful and traditional area with numerous restaurants, taverns, cafes and bars in the centre. The village is famous for its carpets, as well as its beautiful countryside.

During summer, the village is connected to the beach by the help of a small road train. The stony beach of Afandou extends to a length of over three km. and its crystal clear waters have been awarded with a Blue Flag.
For those who love playing golf, there is an 18 hole golf course nearby the village.
