Welcome of Amarandos Apartments

There are few villages on the island of Chios that are situated directly by the sea. Most of them were once built on the hills of the inland to avoid being overrun by any of the then common pirates. The bathing resorts of the island are all built in recent times, which means that only a handful of places by the sea can be found nowadays that are not already overrun by tourists. Luckily the small beach place of Vokaria is one of them.

Located at the foot of the lively village of Nenita, it has a small harbour with picturesque fishing boats and a beautiful pebble beach, magnetic destination for the villagers in summertime and a secret attraction for all Chians looking for an excellent tavern or a nice place to relax. There are few private summerhouses in Vokaria and no other touristic accommodations. Unspoiled by mass tourism, you will find the real Greece in here.

 

This is where we built our new Amarandos Apartments. Invisible from the small road but still only 15m away from the beach, they are the ideal location for those in search of a comfortable and pleasant vacation, with everything necessary to make your stay an unforgettable one, but without the noisy disadvantages of the larger touristic areas.

The name Amarandos derives from the local word for a very bright pink flower that can be found growing exuberantly on the site and elsewhere on the island.

The building style of our apartments is kept simple but integrates beautifully into the hillside surroundings.You can either stay in one of our four two-storied spacious maisonettes or in one of our four single-storey apartments. All our accommodations are decorated with love and contain a kitchen with all equipments, bath with shower or bathtub,a bedroom for one to four people and,if you choose the maisonettes,a living room on the first floor.

All of the Amarandos Apartments have large balconies offering an amazing view of the Aegean Sea,from the coast of Ionia towards the shore of Asia Minor.

Our apartments are close to the fishing harbour of Vokaria and nearby a fish tavern and cafe.

 

From here you can also take long walks into the beautiful countryside,with several scenic routes for exploration along the coast,passing mastic fields and olive groves, discovering rare plants and wild orchids or watching the fishermen in their small boats laying out their nets from the path above the sea.You might even meet a local mastic producer showing you his specific work on his mastic shrubs.

Vokaria is situated 1km downhill from Nenita, which is one of the biggest mastic producing villages of Chios island and a very vital place with more than thousand inhabitants. This village derived its name from the Greek word of "neoktita" which means "newly purchased/built"and refers to the farmlands and buildings of the region that were acquired in the 16th century. Once a medieval village with fortress and fortified houses like the ones you can still find in Mesta or Olympi,the village was for a great part destroyed in the disastrous earthquake of 1881,The ruins of the former village lay beneath the spacious plateia(or village square) of nowdays Nenita.

The Monastery of Taxiarchon was built in 1305 and houses an icon of Arcangel Michael.Recently botanical garden was built on the steep hills of Agios Trifonas, next to another monastery, which has one the most spectacular views of the whole island.

The village itself offers all kind of facilities such as supermarkets,bakeries,pastry shops,pharmacy,post office,a variety of other shops,traditional taverns and cafes. The local people are friendly and willing to answer any of your questions. Nenita is located 17km from Chios Town,15km from the airport and within short travel distance to all interestings sights and beaches.
