From Athens or Thessalonici with the KTEL Athens or Thessalonici respectively, selecting one of the itineraries of line Athens - Igoumenitsa or Thessalonici - Igoumenitsa. Distance Athens - Igoumenitsa is 500 Km and Thessalonici - Igoumenitsa is 400 Km.
From there to Margariti with one of the itineraries of KTEL Thesprotia of line Igoumenitsa - Margariti. The distance from Igoumenitsa to Margariti is 25 Km (25 min).

Marsh Kalodikiou
In southern part of Thesprotia, the Marsh Kalodikiou constitutes, in the wild landscape, a turning point for migratory birds. Hung around from mountains and with big reeds thicket, it differs from the estuaries of Kalamas river. A lot of aquatic birds (herons, ducks, warlblers) find shelter in the canes.
Birds of pray, as lesser spotted eagles, common buzzards..., come from the mountains in order to chase. In his northern department, a big extent is covered from water lilis. Dues of May that bloom, the marsh is a unique spectacle.

 Getting here
 Little afterwards of Margariti, before the carrefour to Parga, in the height of settlement Mori, is revealed to you the aquatic surface of marsh. Enjoy the view from various places near the street, or you can spend little time in order to walk in the path that hangs around the wetland.

Through binoculars, you will discover, in the canes and the waterweed, wonderful water birds and perhaps a Myocastor sunning.

Kalamas Estuaries
Oasis for Winged Travellers
The union of fresh water and sea water, creates a big variety of habitats: lagoons, fresh water marsh, reeds, sea water marsh... They all have great value because they support important numbers of birds.

The estuaries constitute precious turning-point for the migratory birds since the delta is found precisely above the air-path of Western Greece.

The migratory stations are for the birds equally vital just as the regions where they are procrated or overwinter. Exceptionally infrequent slenden-billed curlew has been observed here, at her long travel between Middle Africa and Siberia. In the estuaries come herons in order to overwinter. The number of great white egret, that overwinters in Kalama, is bigger than the 1% of their population in the East Mediterranean.

Getting here
From Igoumenitsa, following the National Road to Ioannina, in New Seleykeia turning left. Follow the street north that lead you to Sagiada. There you visit the Centre of Information of Kalamas, in the graphic scenery small port of Skalwma. You will inform yourselfs for the possibilities of visit particular spaces of Kalamas estuaries.

The castle of Margariti
The castle is found in the southern area and dominates the region.

The southern side has 10 meters height and is maintained entire. The northern side is demolished. From the north-western side in which existed the vaulted gate of castle is rubble. From the two round towers of castle, the notherner is demolished up to the base, the southern is saved entire. Internally the castle existed vaulted underground shelters, deposits, two water towers and sewers.

Ancient Monuments
Nekromanteio Oracle
Near the village Mesopotamos and in the contribution of Aherontas river with Kwkytos river it was the Ancient city Efyra which prosperd the 5th and 6th century b.C. The visitors from the world webt in the oracle where they could after initiation, contact with their deads.

Gitani
Political centre of Thesproton and second, at order of antiquity, capital of Thesprotia. Was fortified with polygonal wall of 2400m perimeter, and saved height of 2-3m. The region extent amounts in 280 acres while the built region extent amounts in 180 acres

Westwards, externally the walls existed theatre of capacity of 4000 - 5000 spectators.

 Nikopoli
In the entry of Amvrakikos gulf in 31 b.C took place the naval battle of Aktio between Antonios, Oktavianos and Cleopatra. Oktavianos constructed Nikopoli in recollection of Naval battle.
